How long is too long?

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

As I have been speaking to some of our customers this past week, the question I raised was, “How long was too long for your site to be down?”  Many customers told me horror stories of their site previously being down for 2 weeks and not knowing it or that they were contacted by one of their customers,  telling them their site was down.  They had gone on with their day to day business with the assumption that their site was functioning.  What happened during that time?  How much in lost online sales, supply chain interruption, reduced customer conversion rate, and diminished customer loyalty occurred?  The bottom line is dollars were lost! Competitors gain an edge over these customers.  Most web surfers will never visit a website again if their first viewing attempt resulted in an error such as “Page not found”.  Can your business afford to have to have marketing dollars lost?

The resounding answer that I received to my question of how long is too long is – Minutes – not hours, not days – is too long for these customers to be down. These customers now all use Web Service Guard.  They understand the huge revenue impact and importance of knowing when your website is down before your customers do.
